Privacy Policy

ScionHome is built on a simple principle: your data exists to help you, not us. This policy explains exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it. We've written it to be readable, not just legally defensible.

1. Who we are

ScionHome is a product of Synthecore Ventures. We provide a household management platform that helps homeowners and renters track bills, insurance, maintenance, documents, and vehicles. When this policy refers to "ScionHome," "we," "us," or "our," it means Synthecore Ventures and the ScionHome service.

Our registered address is in Connecticut, United States.

2. What we collect

Information you provide directly

  • Name and email address (at account creation)
  • Home address and property type (when you add your household)
  • Document details you enter or photograph (passport numbers, license numbers, etc.)
  • Vehicle information (make, model, registration details)
  • Home system details (HVAC age, roof type, appliance records)

Financial data via Plaid

When you connect a bank account or credit card, we receive via Plaid:

  • Transaction history (amount, date, merchant name, category)
  • Account names and types (checking, savings, credit card)
  • Institution name

We do not receive your bank login credentials, account numbers, routing numbers, or balances unless you explicitly enable balance checking. Plaid handles the secure connection to your financial institution. See Section 5 for more on Plaid.

Information we generate automatically

  • Log data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps)
  • Device information (operating system, screen size)
  • Usage patterns (which features you use, how often)
  • Conversation history with the ScionHome agent

Information from third parties

  • Public property records (square footage, year built, assessed value) for your registered address
  • Insurance and utility provider information from public databases

3. How we use your data

We use your data exclusively to provide and improve the ScionHome service. Specifically:

Core service delivery

  • Identifying home-related expenses from your transaction history
  • Monitoring bills, renewals, and expiration dates on your behalf
  • Generating alerts and recommendations relevant to your household
  • Powering the conversational agent with context about your home

Savings identification

  • Comparing your current rates against available alternatives
  • Identifying unused subscriptions or overpriced services
  • Presenting savings opportunities for your review and approval

Service improvement

  • Understanding which features are most useful
  • Improving our AI classification accuracy for home-related expenses
  • Debugging errors and improving reliability

Communications

  • Sending alerts when action is needed (renewal deadlines, lost connections)
  • Sending a weekly digest if you opt in
  • Service announcements and security notices

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your financial data with insurance companies, lenders, or any third party for underwriting or pricing purposes without your explicit consent.

4. Who we share data with

Service providers

We share data with a limited set of vendors who help us operate the service. All are bound by data processing agreements:

  • Plaid — financial account connectivity
  • Supabase — encrypted database and authentication
  • Anthropic — AI processing for transaction classification and agent responses
  • Vercel — hosting and infrastructure
  • Resend — transactional email delivery
  • Twilio — SMS notifications (if you enable them)

Legal requirements

We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of ScionHome, our users, or the public.

Business transfers

If ScionHome is acquired or merges with another company, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

With your consent

We share data with third parties (such as insurance agents or service providers in our network) only when you explicitly initiate that sharing — for example, when you request an insurance quote or authorize a savings negotiation on your behalf.

5. Financial data and Plaid

ScionHome uses Plaid to connect to your financial institutions. When you link an account:

  • You authenticate directly with your bank through Plaid's secure interface — ScionHome never sees your bank credentials
  • Plaid provides us with a read-only access token — we cannot initiate transfers, payments, or any transactions
  • We store your Plaid access token encrypted on our servers — it is never exposed to your browser or any client-side code
  • You can revoke ScionHome's access to any connected account at any time, either in the ScionHome app or directly through my.plaid.com

Transaction data we receive is stored in our encrypted database and used only to identify home-related expenses. We retain raw transaction data for 24 months. You can request deletion at any time — see Section 7.

6. Data retention

  • Account data — retained while your account is active and for 30 days after deletion
  • Transaction data — retained for 24 months from the transaction date
  • Document records — retained until you delete them or close your account
  • Agent conversation history — retained for 12 months
  • Log data — retained for 90 days

When you delete your account, we permanently delete all your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion — request deletion of your data and account
  • Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Objection — object to certain uses of your data
  • Restriction — request that we limit how we use your data

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@scionhome.com. We will respond within 30 days. For account deletion, you can also use the "Delete my account" option in Profile & Security settings — this processes immediately.

California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information.

EEA/UK residents (GDPR): Our legal basis for processing your data is contract performance (to provide the service you signed up for) and legitimate interests (service improvement and security). You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

8. Security

We take security seriously because we handle sensitive financial data. Our practices include:

  • All data encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 or higher
  • All data encrypted at rest in our database (Supabase AES-256)
  • Plaid access tokens stored encrypted, never exposed to client-side code
  • Row-level security policies ensuring users can only access their own household data
  • Multi-factor authentication available for all user accounts
  • Access to production systems restricted to authorized personnel with MFA required

If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to security@scionhome.com. We take all reports seriously and will respond within 48 hours.

In the event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.

9. Children

ScionHome is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at privacy@scionhome.com and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and display a prominent notice in the app at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

Continued use of ScionHome after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
